In an effort to celebrate Chinese culture, the City of San Francisco has declared this Saturday, June 3 as “Kung Fu Day.” The traditional Chinese martial art, in all its variations, will be on display with activities held in the city’s historic Chinatown neighborhood.
With the goal of promoting Chinese history and culture, along with local small businesses, the festival will feature 17 different kung fu organizations showcasing everything from the hung gar style to tai chi chuan. Spectators will be offered kung fu lessons, panel discussions on the impact of kung fu in popular entertainment and the chance to hear from noted masters, as well as the opportunity to see a number of demonstrations. The opening ceremonies are slated to begin at 11 am.
