Armed Attorneys Emily Taylor and Richard Hayes discuss bad news from the Supreme Court after SCOTUS declines to step in on a major concealed carry reciprocity/self-defense case.
A Virginia woman with a valid Virginia concealed carry permit was traveling through Maryland when another driver allegedly rammed her vehicle twice and forced her off the road. According to court filings, the driver then approached aggressively — and she displayed her firearm to stop the threat.
No shots fired. No injuries.
But Maryland still charged her for possessing a loaded handgun without a Maryland permit.
Now the case — Gardner v. Maryland (25-5961) — raised major questions about:
• Can states completely ignore out-of-state carry permits?• Does the Second Amendment protect travelers crossing state lines?• What happens when someone acts in self-defense but violates a state’s gun licensing laws?• Did procedural mistakes kill this case before SCOTUS could even address the bigger constitutional issue?• Could future reciprocity cases still make it to the Supreme Court?
Emily and Richard break down why the Supreme Court’s refusal to intervene could be bad news for gun owners traveling through anti-2A states.
