Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs See Strong Inflows as Whale Opens $419M Short
October 9 – Bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows of 3,356 BTC ($407M), led by BlackRock, which added 3,451 BTC ($418M) to reach 802,198 BTC ($97.3B) in holdings. Ethereum ETFs also saw strength, posting 20,142 ETH ($86.6M) in net inflows, with BlackRock buying 32,968 ETH ($141.8M) to hold over 4 million ETH ($17.6B).
Meanwhile, a major Bitcoin whale, after selling 3,000 BTC earlier this week, deposited $80M USDC on Hyperliquid to open a 6x short worth $419M, with liquidation at $140,660, and another $50M USDC on Binance.
Bybit Secures UAE’s First Virtual Asset Platform Operator License from SCA
Bybit, the world’s second-largest crypto exchange by trading volume, has become the first exchange to obtain a full Virtual Asset Platform Operator License from the UAE’s Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA). The approval allows Bybit to offer regulated virtual asset trading, brokerage, custody, and fiat conversion services to both retail and institutional clients across the UAE.
This marks a key milestone in the UAE’s ambition to position itself as a global hub for digital assets. Bybit received its initial approval in February 2025 and now brings its full suite of global products into compliance under the UAE’s robust regulatory framework.
Following licenses in Europe and India earlier this year, the achievement strengthens Bybit’s compliance-first expansion strategy.
The exchange plans to expand its regional presence with a larger operations center in Abu Dhabi, creating new jobs and supporting local Web3 innovation initiatives.
Luxembourg Sovereign Wealth Fund Invests in Bitcoin ETFs
Luxembourg’s Intergenerational Sovereign Wealth Fund (FSIL) has become the first Eurozone state-level fund to invest in Bitcoin, allocating 1% of its $730 million portfolio to Bitcoin ETFs. Finance Minister Gilles Roth announced the move during the 2026 Budget presentation, emphasizing Luxembourg’s leadership in digital finance. The FSIL, established in 2014 to secure reserves for future generations, revised its investment policy in July 2025 to include up to 15% in alternative assets like crypto.
While Finland, Georgia, and the U.K. hold Bitcoin, mostly from criminal seizures, Luxembourg’s investment signals confidence in the asset’s long-term potential.
