In a horrific story out of Russia, it’s been reported an 11-year-old judo champion was beaten and burned to death by older children jealous of his success.
Albert Umbetyarov had won a number of judo competitions, according to his coach, Alexander Tvanba. A gang of boys, aged 13 to 15, supposedly envious of Umbetyarov’s success, beat him with bats, then doused him with gasoline, locked him in a shed and set it on fire. A group of girls nearby reportedly recorded the incident on camera and streamed it online. By the time adults arrived, it was too late to save Umbetyarov.
The Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, the country’s chief investigative agency, has reported a sharp increase in extreme crimes committed by young people in Russia since the beginning of the invasion of Ukraine last year.
