Belal Muhammad lost his welterweight title at UFC 315 and maybe some of his face in the process.
There’s no nice way to describe how Muhammad looked after dropping a unanimous decision to Jack Della Maddalena in Saturday’s main event after the two fought tooth-and-nail for 25 minutes. It was clear Muhammad was bloodied and bruised by the end of the contest, but it wasn’t until after the final bell rang that the extent of the damage became distressingly in focus.
UFC CEO Dana White shared an image to his Instagram Stories later that night showing Muhammad’s badly split lip, which you can see below.

The battle wound was reminiscent of those suffered by Robbie Lawler and Alistair Overeem in their respective bouts with Rory MacDonald and Jairzinho Rozenstruik.

Muhammad’s bout with Della Maddalena was exceedingly close. The new champion earned the win with scores of 49-46 and a pair of 48-47s, though several rounds felt like coin flips in the moment.
It is not yet known if Muhammad will require any medical procedures to address his damaged mouth or if will simply be a matter of rest and relaxation before “Remember the Name” is ready to step back into the octagon.
