Is BTC The Best Crypto To Buy Now Despite ETH Momentum?
Bitcoin has climbed back above the 180k mark after closing at $115.95k on 9 August 2025, a slip of 0.48% after Friday’s 0.83%. To BTC’s credit, it avoided breaking below the $150k support level.
As seen over the last couple of days, BTC’s ETF inflow trailed behind ETH, prompting a rotation to ETH despite BTC’s bullish technicals.

While the altcoins have been on a winning spree lately, with major gains made in ETH and XRP, analyst Darkfost argues that a true altcoin season hasn’t kicked in yet.
He suggests that altcoins are still underperforming relative to Bitcoin.

Using moving average comparisons, Darkfost demonstrates that Bitcoin’s market cap growth has continued to outpace both large-cap and mid-to-small-cap altcoins.
He stated that the last true altcoin season, where altcoins outperformed BTC, was in early 2024.
According to Darkfost, the current altcoin momentum is still weak, meaning capital rotation from Bitcoin to altcoins hasn’t fully materialised yet and that this is just a warm-up phase.
The altcoin market cap sits above $1.55 trillion, up 12% in the past week, but still trailing behind BTC’s dominance.
Top Crypto Performers This Week
The crypto market closed this week with its total market capitalisation briefly surpassing the $4 trillion mark, its second time in two weeks.
ETH is clearly the winner this week, gaining by more than 21% to close approximately at $4215, poised to retest its all-time high of $4878. At the same time, the overzealous ones see the altcoin reaching $10,000 before the end of this year.
While we bask in the glory of ETH and its return to form, let’s not forget that Chainlink (LINK) led gains among the first 20 digital assets, surging 36.6% over the week.
It climbed to a high of $21.22 before easing slightly to $21.14 on 7 August, marking its break about the haloed $20 mark for the first time since February this year.
Other standout performers of this week include Dogecoin(DOGE), which jumped over 24% while Stellar (XLM) gained 20.4%. HYPE followed with a 17.3% rise.
However, more dramatic moves came from lesser-known tokens such as the MYX, which skyrocketed by a staggering 1,439%, topping Coingecko’s leaderboard, with TROLL and SOON trailing behind at 273.2% and 159% respectively.
