Jon Jones reveals his Mount Rushmore of MMA

Jon Jones is widely considered the greatest fighter of all time but who else deserves to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with him on the list of the best to ever compete in MMA.

Well, Jones weighed in on that very subject when asked about his “Mount Rushmore of MMA” — a popular topic to pick the four best fighters from the sport. While there’s no metric to actually measure greatness, Jones’ picks aren’t all that surprising — and he’s also smart enough to include himself on the list.

“Top four — Demetrious Johnson, Anderson Silva, Georges St-Pierre and myself,” Jones told Vic Blends on YouTube. “In no specific order. We’ve all done really great things in this sport.”

Of course, Jones’ resume speaks for itself as the longest reigning light heavyweight champion in UFC history and then going onto become heavyweight champion in recent years.

He’s also never actually tasted defeat in his career with the only blemish on his record coming from a disqualification loss after he was already mauling Matt Hamill but ultimately finished the fight with illegal 12-to-6 elbow strikes.

Meanwhile, St-Pierre is the longest reigning welterweight champion in UFC history with nine consecutive title defenses before moving onto become middleweight champion with a submission win over UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping.

For all the title fight wins Jones and St-Pierre boast in their careers, Johnson actually holds the record for the most title defenses in UFC history with 11 straight, which broke Silva’s previously held mark at 10 straight title defenses.

As for Silva, Jones actually went as far as calling him his “idol” and admits he still gets nervous whenever he has a chance to interact with the legendary Brazilian and former UFC champion.

Given the gaudy list of accolades these four have accomplished over the years, it’s tough to argue with Jones’ list but those are the names he would include when narrowing down the best of the best in MMA history.
