Delberty Lamark left Brazil to face Burak Kizilirmak on eight days’ notice at Xtreme Combat Championship 2 this past weekend in Vienna, Austria, but the fight only lasted six seconds.
Lamark went down when the first jab landed, hitting his head hard on the ground, and Kizilirmak landed a few heavy shots before the referee stopped the match. Fans were suspicious on social media, accusing the 36-year-old Brazilian of taking a dive, but he denies any wrongdoing.
“People only see the show, but nobody sees what happens backstage,” Lamark told MMA Fighting in his return to Brazil.

Lamark, who runs a striking gym alongside his brother in João Pessoa, Brazil, said he was offered the bout eight days before the event. He packed his bags and left Brazil on Wednesday, arriving in Vienna the night before weigh-ins.
Away from the cage since 2018 prior to this match and a natural flyweight when he was actively competing in Brazil, Lamark was clearly unprepared. And even though the bout was advertised by XCC as a welterweight showdown, Lamark claims he stepped on the scale at 186 pounds for the official weigh-ins.
Questioned about the stoppage, Lamark blamed the Austrian cold and a sinus infection for his poor performance.
“People thought it was odd that I got hit and went down, but they don’t see what happens backstage,” Lamark said. “I left Brazil, where it was 97°F, and it’s 40°F [in Vienna]. It’s a whole different world. We suffered a lot. I have bad sinus infection and rhinitis, and that affected me. It was too cold there.
“If you watch my walkout, and even in the cage, you’ll notice I’m blowing my hands trying to warm them. My head hurts right before the fight because of the sinus infection. I went for the fight to kill or be killed, and when he landed that jab on my nose, my eyes shut and I turned immediately. I watched the video afterwards… I couldn’t do anything.”
Down to 6-5 as a professional fighter and bothered by the online criticism, Lamark said he plans on competing at least one final time to close his career on a higher note.
“I’m a lot better when I’m well-trained,” Lamark said. “I haven’t showed anything, and I’m very disappointed at myself. I know I was 100 percent affected by the cold and sinus infection.
“Even though it didn’t go the way I wanted, I do want to go back [to fighting]. I have a dream of doing it one last fight so my kids watch me. And I don’t want it to be overseas, where I can’t speak the language. I want to have my kids in the ring with me. So I’m going back to training. I had already stopped, but now I’m 100 percent back to training.”
