UFC legend B.J. Penn posted a troubling video to his social media that documented his arrest this past Sunday on charges of abuse of a family or household member.
Online records show that Penn was arrested and later released on $2,000 bail. No formal charges have been filed yet based on court records.
The former UFC lightweight and welterweight champion released a video on Instagram shot by a friend that showed police surrounding Penn in bed as he questioned why he was being arrested. The officers stated he was being arrested for harassment with Penn continuing to argue until he finally got out of bed where he was handcuffed by police.
“How can I be under arrest for harassment? This is my house,” Penn said to the officers. “I just went to go grab the mail. Can we call an officer I know that can talk to you guys? Why am I being arrested again? What kind of harassment? What does harassment mean?”

In a caption posted to the video on his Instagram page, Penn added “In Hawaii, ‘impostor theft’ refers to instances where individuals falsely impersonate others, often to steal their identity or commit fraudulent acts. This can involve using a fake identity to obtain documents, financial accounts, or even posing as law enforcement or other professionals to commit crimes.”
No further details regarding the arrest have been made public at this time.
A search of online records in Penn’s home state of Hawaii show the retired UFC fighter has several ongoing cases including a civil lawsuit happening as well.
More recently, a protective restraining order was approved by a judge on May 20 after Penn failed to appear in court. According to court records, the judge told Penn not to “threaten/physically abuse/psychologically abuse/maliciously damage or disturb the property/prohibited from personally contacting the other party and protected minor(s); [Penn] is prohibited from coming or passing within 100 yards of any residence, place of employment, or school of the other party and the protected minor(s).”
The case against Penn was filed by his ex Shealen Uaiwa with the protective order also in place for two children as well.
The protective order was put in place until March 10, 2030.
As recently as April 7, Penn actually filed for a temporary restraining order of his own against his mother Lorraine Shin but a judge denied the order stating “allegations do not establish a basis for relief.”
In recent months, Penn has posted a number of disturbing videos and photos making all sorts of wild accusations including one addressed to the Hilo Police department stating “I need your help. My mother Lorraine Shin, my brother Jay Dee Penn, my brother, Reagan Penn and my brother Kalani Mamazuka [were] all murdered and I need you to investigate these guys get these people out of my house and my off my properties.”
In other posts, Penn alleged that people are impersonating his family members in an attempt to steal his assets.
Penn, 46, last fought in the UFC back in 2019 when he suffered his seventh consecutive loss in a row after falling by decision to Clay Guida. That brought an end to his UFC career after Penn was widely considered one of the greatest fighters of all time after claiming championships in two different divisions and headlining numerous cards throughout his legendary career.
