Before Israel Adesanya delivered a memorable performance in the octagon against Robert Whittaker to become the undisputed UFC middleweight champion, Adesanya created one of the most iconic walkouts in UFC history.
Adesanya took part in a short choreographed dance at the entrance way before making his walk to the octagon in Melbourne, Australia, where he went on to brutally knock out Whittaker to unify the UFC’s 185-pound title.
A little over five years later, “The Last Stylebender” revealed how the dance and walkout came together to the Our Yeah podcast.
“This was just for fun,” Adesanya said. “For me, I enjoyed doing this because I prepped the night before this walkout. So, going to bed, I had the replay of the walkout, the practice, in my phone, and I was like, ‘F*ck, this is going to look cool as f*ck’ as I fell asleep.
“So I wasn’t worried about the fight. We already did the work.”
Adesanya nearly finished Whittaker in the first, but came back out in Round 2 and unleashed a nasty left hook to get “The Reaper” out in Round 2 to get the biggest win of his career at that time.
Currently, Adesanya is at a career crossroads after losing three straight fights, and four of his past five. In his two most recent contests, Adesanya was stopped by Nasourdine Imavov in the main event of UFC Saudi Arabia earlier this year, and middleweight champ Dricus du Plessis at UFC 305 this past August.
