Effective October 9, 2026, the ATF announced it will no longer enforce certain NFA registration, tax stamp, and prior approval requirements for these firearms and devices nationwide—not just for the plaintiffs involved in the Silencer Shop Foundation lawsuit.
But does this mean you can finally purchase a suppressor or SBR without a Form 4? Can you build your own short-barreled rifle without filing a Form 1? And what happens if a future administration reverses this guidance?
