Survival is step one. We’re step two.
Armed Attorneys Edwin Walker and Richard Hayes break down major questions affecting gun owners, including a proposed ATF rule change that could simplify NFA engraving requirements, when church safety teams can legally intervene against an armed threat, how protective orders may affect a self-defense case, and whether displaying a holstered firearm could still create legal problems.
They also discuss whether Texas LTC holders are required to show their license when police otherwise have no legal basis to demand identification.
In this episode:
• New ATF rules and NFA engraving requirements• When the proposed ATF engraving change could take effect• Protective orders and evidence in a self-defense case• Can showing a holstered firearm be considered “brandishing”?• When church safety teams can intervene against an armed threat• Do you have to wait until a shooter actually fires?• Texas LTC holders and identification requirements• When police can legally require you to identify yourself
The proposed ATF rule discussed is Docket ATF-2026-0005, which would amend 27 CFR 479.102(b)(3) and could allow certain makers of NFA firearms to adopt the original manufacturer’s markings rather than adding their own name, city, and state.
