Wrestling prodigy Richie Clementi once again continues to put Louisiana on the national map.
Clementi is a two-time state champion and undefeated in Louisiana for the past two years since stepping on the mat his freshman year at Brother Martin.
However, Clementi left an indelible mark at the highly competitive Spartan Nationals Tournament in Tampa, Florida.
Held annually, this prestigious event brings together the nation’s best wrestlers, competing against one another in a battle for a prestigious championship belt. Against formidable opponents, Clementi secured victories in all three major wrestling styles: greco-roman, freestyle and folkstyle to capture the triple crown.
Clementi’s impressive journey began in the folkstyle category. He faced a series of formidable opponents but went on to defeat all of them by technical fall, pin and major decision. The finals match proved Clementi was dominant as he did not allow his opponent to score, ultimately winning 11-0.
Clementi continued to shine as he carried his momentum into the freestyle division. Facing off against some of the country’s toughest competitors, he emerged victorious in his journey to the finals, winning every match by technical fall. Clementi scored 35 points combined in the freestyle matches and only gave up three points. The score of the final match was 13-2.
His quest for triumph did not end as the greco-roman style was all that was left for him to capture the triple crown. In a breathtaking performance, Clementi dominated again by defeating all of his opponents by technical fall. The final match displayed his flawless amount of hard work and dedication to the sport. He controlled the entire match in a 10-1 triumph.
Clementi’s outstanding performance at the Spartan Nationals exemplifies the dedication to becoming the best wrestler to ever come out of Louisiana. His ability to excel in multiple wrestling styles showcases his versatility and adaptability, setting him apart from his peers.
In the entire history of Louisiana wrestling, there has only been three individuals who have claimed the status of four-time division I state champion. Paul Klein and Steven Shields from Brother Martin and most recently Ernie Perry from Airline High School. Moreover, Clementi will have an opportunity to join the elite list of legends who will be remembered forever.
